Day 33 - Meinmahlakyune Third Day

The director was determined to find some crocs during the daytime for us, and we spent the last morning in the channels looking. Closest we came was this spot where a croc had been 30 minutes before (judged by the tide level).

The track shows where it hauled out and slid back in.

We did get to see a monkey, however, called here a long-tail, or crab eating monkey.

According to the director, the two names are related, in that the monkey allegedly uses its tail to dig crabs out of their holes - gotta see that to believe it I guess.

We also saw several new (for us) species of birds, and over the time of our visit to the sanctuary saw 42 species.

We were laying getting back to Bogalay and so had to take a minibus, which did a lot of bouncing around on a rather poor road up out of the delta. I did enjoy the many miles of green rice paddies (3 crops a year)...

which, coupled with the large flocks of domesticated ducks waddling about, evoked memories for me of my tour in Viet Nam, which did have some good times.

When we got near Yangon we were on the wrong side of the river and had to take a ferry across.

We checked into the Royal White Elephant Hotel, which turned out to be a real disappointment, now making us somewhat suspicious of Agoda ratings.
