Day 39 - a Birding Day Trip and Shwedagon Paya at Night

Another early start (5:30), for a little time-killing birding trip to Udo Wetland, north of Yangon. Frankly, it turned out to be little more than a time killer, although we did see a couple of new birds. To give an idea of how slow it was, two highlights were a chicken/fish farm operation...

and our jovial driver hitching a ride on an oxcart.

We've nicknamed him Goliath, because he liked to say that name of a heron we saw a lot of in Moeyingyi, after Dana repeatedly corrected Mr. Soe's mispronunciation of it.

We spent 6 hours in the car getting there and back, and 3 or 4 actually birding, some of it in pretty warm sun, so we were a bit wiped out when we got back to our hotel, but we did roust ourselves out in the evening for a revisit to the Shwedagon Paya - a great time to be there.

Tomorrow we fly north to Mandalay to explore that part of the country.
